The Tree of Life (Shajarat al-Hayah) is a 400-year old mesquite tree in Bahrain. This unique tree stands alone in the desert about 2 km from the Jebel Dukhan, the highest point in Bahrain. The source of water for this tree remains a mystery because it stands in a place completely free of water supply. Mesquites yield yellowish gums used in making mucilage, candles and dyes. The Tree of Life Web Project (ToL) is a collaborative effort of biologists and nature enthusiasts from around the world. On more than 10,000 World Wide Web pages, the project provides information about biodiversity, the characteristics of different groups of organisms, and their evolutionary history (phylogeny). Each page contains information about a particular group, e.g., salamanders, segmented worms, phlox flowers, tyrannosaurs, euglenids, Heliconius butterflies, club fungi, or the vampire squid. ToL pages are linked one to another hierarchically, in the form of the evolutionary tree of life. Starting with the root of all Life on Earth and moving out along diverging branches to individual species, the structure of the ToL project thus illustrates the genetic connections between all living things. "The affinities of all the beings of the same class have sometimes been represented by a great tree... As buds give rise by growth to fresh buds, and these if vigorous, branch out and overtop on all sides many a feebler branch, so by generation I believe it has been with the great Tree of Life, which fills with its dead and broken branches the crust of the earth, and covers the surface with its ever branching and beautiful ramifications." Taking shade under our tree means having a place to rejuvenate, to rest the
body, mind, and soul, and to escape the chaos of the world.

The term "Kabbalah" was originally used in Talmudic texts, among the Geonim, and by early Rishonim as a reference to the full body of publicly available Jewish teaching. In this sense Kabbalah was used in referring to all of known Oral Law. Over time it became a reference to doctrines of esoteric knowledge concerning God, God's creation of the universe and the laws of nature, and the path by which adult religious Jews can learn these secrets. Kabbalah, according to the more recent use of the word, stresses the esoteric reasons and understanding of the commandments in the Torah, and the occult cause of events described in the Torah. Kabbalah includes the understanding of the spiritual spheres of creation, and the ways by which God administers the existence of the universe. According to Jewish tradition dating from the 13th century, this knowledge has come down as a revelation to elect saints from a remote past, and preserved only by a privileged few. It is considered part of the Jewish Oral Law by the majority of religious Jews in modern times, although this was not agreed upon by many Talmudic and medieval scholars, as well as many modern liberal rabbis and a minority of Orthodox rabbis. There are many ways by which our guests find the Tree of Life. Some people
come to enhance and support their already healthy lifestyles and to ensure
their healthy futures. Some are seeking more joy, peace and a deeper soul
connection to the Divine, while others simply wish to experience the joy of a
vegan vegetarian spiritual retreat that is in alignment with their personal
lifestyle. There are also those who are suffering the results of years of damaging
lifestyle and dietary choices, and visit out of their need to address a serious,
life-threatening illness. They may also feel a lack of joy and peace, a separation
from love and Self, and a disconnection from the experience of the soul. Still
others are experiencing environmental stress and degradation first-hand in the
form of chemical imbalances and toxicity, and while they may not be
diagnosed, they have very little energy and enthusiasm for life.
